FAITH IN ACTION…

ADVOCATING FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE

The prayer Jesus taught us says: “Thy Kin-dom come, on hearth as it is in heaven.”  So we advocate for public policy that reflects Gospel values of peace, caring for the vulnerable, equality for all, and care for our home, the earth.  Member advocates of BCUCC review public policy issues, with a goal of taking stands informed by Christian teaching. We may contact elected officials, participate in rallies, and share information with others. BCUCC does not endorse or support any candidates, but instead focuses on policy issues that affect our community.

FAITH IN ACTION…

GREEN JUSTICE

We are a Creation Justice Church, with a wide variety of eco-friendly projects, and a commitment to advocacy for the protection of the earth. We support Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL), a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Church projects and programs include our very own California native green garden, recycling, and green living workshops.

FAITH IN ACTION…

SHARING AND CARING

Sharing and caring for those in need is an integral part of the gospel (Matthew 25).  Jesus’ mission lives on in at BCUCC, where for over 30 years we have cared and housed shelter guests as part of an interfaith shelter network (currently led by Family Promise) to house families who find themselves temporarily homeless and in need of a helping hand. We have also collected many tons of non-perishable food for Brea’s local food shelf through our First Food Sunday. We have also opened our space to host several independently run 12-Step meetings for addiction recovery.

FAITH IN ACTION…

“FAITH WITHOUT WORKS, IS DEAD” [JAMES 2:14-26]

Vital faith leads to  compassionate action.  Our members, from young to young-at-heart, have hosted teach-ins for antiracism and other social issues and participated in community and global projects like Inner Coastal Clean-up, the OC AIDS Walk, and the Heifer Project. We also partner with other interfaith organizations like the Active Christians Today (ACT) group, Family Promise Shelter, and the Voice of the Refugees.
